Silence in the universe
As the hearts race and people breathe
But pause with baited wait
As there are moments of apprehension
And the still expressions of fear
As imaginations run riot
Nightmares begin to run
Upon the fields of dream
They canter over brain cells
And in the consciousness
Filling all with shivering tenderness
Feeling so very uncomfortable
And unprotected from the horrors
Those await them there
They sneak in the darkness
Wait in the imagined realm
They shush with eyes of flame
And hiss dark words
They're there when your back is turned
There in the hatred and lust
There in the greed of humanity
Born of thoughts and dust
Shadows playing on your mind
Faces appearing where there are none
This is the world of fear my dear
And you can never be free of its hold
